9th International Ra & Rn Workshop

9th International Ra & Rn Workshop

10 - 14 June 2024

Location

The National Oceanography Centre, Southampton UK

Workshop Outline

The University of Southampton and The National Oceanography Centre are thrilled to host the 9th iteration of the International Ra/Rn Workshop to share new research and network with global Ra/Rn colleagues. This is your opportunity to delve deep into applications and measurement of radium and radon as environmental tracers.

The workshop provides a forum for presentations and open discussions regarding the latest developments and new directions in using natural Ra/Rn isotopes in the environment. There will be formal presentations (invited keynote talks and contributed talks) as well as room for discussions (session discussions, working groups, poster sessions), plus hybrid sessions to include colleagues who can’t attend in person. Key topics will span the freshwater-to-marine continuum, including: groundwater processes and surface water-groundwater interactions, submarine groundwater discharge and other coastal exchange processes, water-atmosphere gas exchange, fluxes from the seafloor, oceanic distribution of these tracers from GEOTRACES, and recent methodological advances. Other subjects involving Ra, Rn and Ac in the environment are welcome too.

Early career researchers are particularly encouraged to attend, as are colleagues curious about the use of Ra and Rn as tracers, to facilitate exchange between researchers who are new to the topic and experienced users of Ra and Rn.

The workshop will include the following social activities:

Icebreaker reception at Southampton SeaCity Museum
