UKESM LTSM Project General Assembly

UKESM LTSM Project General Assembly

11th & 12th June 2019

National Oceanography Centre, Southampton, UK

The UKESM project celebrates this year its annual assembly on the 11th and 12th of June 2019, hosted by the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) in Southampton.

Our new model, UKESM1 was scientifically frozen in August 2018 and released to the UK research community on a range of HPC platforms in January 2019. Both achievements are the result of an enormous collaborative effort over the past 5 years, involving scientists from all NERC centres, as well as a major contribution from MOHC. Furthermore, UKESM1 would not have been possible without significant involvement of a large number of university researchers working closely with the UKESM team. UKESM1 is the most scientifically ambitious and process-complete Earth system model in the world today.

The meeting will start 9am on the 11th and run to ~16.00 on the 12th and will be a mixture of (i) planned presentations updating people on progress and performance of UKESM1 (e.g. within CMIP6), (ii) a session with contributed talks on aspects of ES modelling/evaluation and a poster session, plus (iii) a morning of more targeted break-out sessions on Day 2. General project discussions and forward look plus our International Advisory Board meeting will also be held on the Day 2.
