New Format for MATS 2025
Having marked our 10th Anniversary last year we felt it was time to give MATS a refresh. The new look will feature a two full day programme with days running from 9 - 5pm. Ample networking and exhibitor breaks will remain a key feature of the day with one or two new features being added.
More to come soon!
Themes for 2025
The marine sector is evolving rapidly, driven by innovation, environmental priorities, and a growing need for sustainable solutions. For this year’s MATS, we invite abstract submissions that align with our three key themes, each incorporating elements of the Blue Economy, Sustainability, and the Future of Marine Research Infrastructure. We are particularly keen to see contributions that reflect the sector’s transformation—from emerging technologies to shifting research approaches—and welcome submissions from early-career researchers and a diverse range of voices to ensure a balanced and inclusive programme.
Theme 1 - Robotics and Remote Data Collection
We welcome presentations from end-users of marine autonomous systems (MAS), with a focus on both current and forward-looking applications in data collection. This theme aims to explore how MAS interact with the environment and subsea infrastructure, and how they can be deployed to meet evolving end-user needs. We’re particularly interested in case studies demonstrating real-world impact—whether through enhanced service delivery, reductions in carbon emissions, or improvements in data quality and quantity. Submissions that highlight innovative, sustainable uses of robotics and remote technologies are strongly encouraged.
Theme 2 - Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning in the Maritime World
This theme explores the latest developments of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in marine autonomous systems (MAS) and ocean data analysis. We invite presentations that showcase how these technologies are enhancing the performance, efficiency, and functionality of MAS—whether through autonomous navigation, environmental perception, data annotation, or image analysis. Alongside success stories, we welcome critical reflections on the challenges of integrating AI into real-world maritime applications. How close are we to true decision-making AI, and how much is still pattern recognition? What level of trust can we place in these systems, and how relevant are they to end-user needs? Submissions should aim to provide insight into current innovations, emerging capabilities, and the future direction of AI/ML in marine autonomy.
Theme 3 - Autonomous Platforms: the Next Generation and Supporting Technology
This theme shines a spotlight on the future of autonomous platform development and the technologies enabling their evolution. We invite presentations covering a broad range of topics, including sensing systems, end-to-end integration, situational awareness, navigation, networking, multi-platform collaboration, long-term residency, launch and recovery solutions, and novel vehicle concepts. We’re also keen to hear about the growing role of software, cyber technologies, and digital twins in supporting and enhancing MAS operations. Submissions should highlight how advances in autonomous systems are driving step changes in capability and performance—demonstrated through real-world deployments, whether involving individual platforms or coordinated fleets.
Abstract Submission
Abstracts should be a maximum of 250 words covering the key topics of your presentation , for 2025 we will also be taking submissions for a poster session. Please click here to submit your abstract
Abstract Submissions will close 1 July 2025
